Prime Minister Tarique Rahman expanded his cabinet on Friday evening as four new ministers and two state ministers were sworn in during a ceremony at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban. Their ministerial portfolios are expected to be announced separately.
The oath of office was administered by newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, moments after he took oath as the 23rd President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
The four new cabinet ministers are Dr Abdul Moin Khan, BNP Standing Committee member and MP for Narsingdi-2; Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho, Chairman of the Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) and MP for Bhola-1; Saching Prue Jerry, MP for Bandarban; and Rashiduzzaman Millat.
In addition, Mohammad Shamim Kaisar Lincoln, MP for Gaibandha-4, was sworn in as a state minister. Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kabir also joined the cabinet as a technocrat state minister, marking his formal entry into the executive branch.
Earlier in the evening, at 7:30 pm, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was sworn in as the country’s new president at the same venue. Acting Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Kaysar Kamal administered the presidential oath in the presence of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, members of the cabinet, lawmakers, senior judges, military chiefs, diplomats and other high-ranking civil and military officials.
The swearing-in of the new cabinet members followed immediately after the presidential inauguration, making it the first cabinet expansion under President Fakhrul’s tenure. Officials said the Cabinet Division will issue separate notifications announcing the ministries and responsibilities assigned to each of the newly appointed ministers and state ministers.![]()
