Mohammad Rafiqul Islam has joined United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB) as Deputy Managing Director (DMD) and Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective November 1, 2026.
With nearly 29 years of experience in the banking and financial services industry, Rafiqul Islam brings extensive expertise in business development, banking operations, risk management, overseas remittance and financial services.
Prior to joining UCB, he served as Managing Director of United Finance PLC and Deputy Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of Standard Bank PLC. He also held senior leadership positions at Standard Chartered Bank as Director and at Citibank N.A. as Resident Vice President. Earlier, he served as Deputy Managing Director of BD Finance.
Rafiqul Islam began his banking career in 1997 as a Probationary Officer at Dhaka Bank Limited. Over the years, he has held various leadership positions at prominent local and international financial institutions, gaining extensive experience in banking operations and financial services.
He holds an MBA from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka, and is a Certified Credit Professional from Omega, UK.
His extensive experience in banking leadership, operational management, risk oversight and financial services is expected to strengthen UCB’s management capabilities as he takes on his new responsibilities.
