U.S. Embassy Issues Storm Preparedness Advisory for Americans in Bangladesh

The U.S. Embassy in Dhaka has issued a storm preparedness advisory for American citizens living in or traveling to Bangladesh as the country’s cyclone season continues.
In a statement released on Monday, the embassy urged U.S. nationals to take precautionary measures and stay informed about severe weather conditions.
The embassy advised Americans to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at step.state.gov to receive weather-related alerts and emergency notifications. It noted that during major storms, STEP helps the embassy contact U.S. citizens or their designated emergency contacts more efficiently.
The advisory also encouraged travelers and residents to prepare an emergency plan, including arrangements for staying safe if flights are disrupted and maintaining communication with family members during severe weather.
In addition, the embassy recommended keeping an emergency kit ready. Essential items should include passports, important documents, prescription medications, and local currency stored in a waterproof plastic bag.
The embassy further advised carrying a portable phone charger, a flashlight, and an adequate supply of drinking water to ensure preparedness during emergencies.
